What do I need to sell scrap at Michalak Battery & Core?
All customers must be at least 18 years of age and are required to have valid state-issued ID. Customers will be required to have their state issued ID scanned and sign declaring they are authorized to sell their material. All vehicles must bear a valid license plate.
What is the difference between non-ferrous and ferrous metals?
Non-ferrous metals are non-magnetic and will not stick to a magnet. Ferrous metals are magnetic and will stick to a magnet. Some example of non-ferrous metals are copper, aluminum, and brass. Some examples of ferrous metals are steel and iron. They are more common metals. Generally speaking, non-ferrous metals are worth more money when you are scrapping them.
Do you pay cash for scrap metal?
Yes, Michalak Battery & Core pays cash for your scrap metal. We will pay you on the spot if you're selling your metal to us. If you request that you or your business needs a check instead, we are more than happy to accommodate you with one.
Do you buy computers?
Yes, we take computers and some parts from them. We will buy laptops and computer towers for scrap. We also buy the components from inside them like hard drives, motherboards, CPUs, RAM boards, low-grade circuit boards, power supplies, aluminum heatsinks, and wires. We will accept and recycle computer mice, keyboards, printers, and fax machines but do not pay for them.
Does Michalak Battery & Core accept cars?
We do not buy cars or vehicles for scrap. We do however buy certain parts that can be recycled from cars. Some items we do buy are; aluminum rims, catalytic converters, aluminum hoods and doors, brass or aluminum radiators, alternators and starters. If you are selling aluminum rims for scrap, you will receive a significantly higher price if you remove the rubber.
What electronics do you accept?
Like mentioned above, we do take a number of e-scrap items from computers and laptops, but we also accept cell phone, backup batteries, computer servers, and telecom equipment. If you have questions, please contact us and we will be happy to let you know if we accept the items in question.
Do you buy batteries?
We do buy some batteries, such aslead-acid batteries, steel case batteries, cell site batteries, and lithium-ion batteries. We do not buy household alkaline batteries, nor recycle them. We do scrap lead batteries such as the ones that are inside your vehicle and also forklift batteries. Check the labels; lead-acid batteries will have a “PB” symbol, the periodic element symbol for lead.
Does Michalaks' buy TV's or Monitors?
We do not buy TV’s, monitors, or flat-screens. There is little scrap value so it is difficult for us to recycle them. We suggest contacting your local municipality for recycling options they may have set in place to recycle those materials properly.
